The rutting season in Monfragüe.
The rutting of the stags in Monfragüe is one of the most impressive natural spectacles to be experienced on the Iberian Peninsula. Every autumn, between mid-September and early October, male deer emit powerful bellows to attract females and establish their dominance. This phenomenon, known as the ‘berrea’, is a unique moment to enjoy nature and wildlife in its purest state.

With the help of local expert guides, we will travel through the best spots of the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve, guaranteeing an unforgettable and safe experience.
When is the rutting season in Monfragüe?
The rut usually begins in mid-September and can last until early October. The exact time depends on factors such as temperature and abundance of food, but the first weeks of autumn are the best period to enjoy it.
How to observe the rut?
The best way to observe the rut is with local guides and adapted vehicles, such as 4×4 vehicles, which allow you to reach less accessible areas of the park. Our guides know the best corners of Monfragüe to guarantee a unique and respectful view of the deer in the middle of nature.
