Guided tour ‘Discover Monfragüe’: your first major guided tour of the National Park

This guided visit around Monfragüe is designed for those who wish to explore the park’s main attractions on a half-day excursion that is comfortable and suitable for all visitors. A journey through the National Park’s most iconic landscapes, accompanied by an expert guide who will explain the area’s natural and cultural riches.

Over the course of around four hours, we’ll explore the heart of Monfragüe, stopping at the most breathtaking viewpoints, observing wildlife through binoculars and a telescope, and learning about the history, geology, vegetation and traditional culture that have shaped this unique area.

What will we see on this tour?

🦅 Salto del Gitano
One of the park’s greatest icons. We’ll get a close-up view of the griffon vultures gliding alongside the rocks, and, with a bit of luck, we might also spot a black vulture or a golden eagle. Your guide will explain what makes this ecosystem so unique.

🏰 Monfragüe Castle (optional)
Weather permitting, we will visit the castle to enjoy spectacular views over the whole park and the river valleys of the Tagus and Tiétar.

🌿 Forests and
Durante la ruta cruzaremos zonas de bosque mediterráneo, con encinas, alcornoques, lentiscos y jaras. Podremos ver ciervos, zorros y muchas aves en su hábitat natural.

🌉 Puente del Cardenal (depending on the time of year)
Uno de los pasos históricos del río Tajo dentro del Parque Nacional de Monfragüe. Aquí conoceremos su importancia como punto estratégico de comunicación y también como enclave ecológico donde el agua y la roca generan un paisaje muy característico.

🔭 Viewpoints along the River Tiétar
Nos acercaremos a varios puntos elevados desde los que se domina el río Tiétar. En estos miradores haremos paradas prolongadas para observar aves con telescopio, aprender sobre la dinámica fluvial del parque y disfrutar del silencio de la naturaleza.

🏡 Villarreal de San Carlos
A small village where the National Park’s visitor centre is located. We can stop here briefly if you’d like.

Una experiencia fantástica, tanto por el paisaje como por Marcos que nos hizo de guía. Súper amable, adapta los tiempos y la dificultad de la ruta a las necesidades de los asistentes. Se conoce al dedillo la orografía, la fauna, la flora y las costumbres de la zona, así que para nosotros, que era la primera vez que visitamos el Valle del Jerte, ha sido genial. Sin darte cuenta, de forma pausada y tranquila a lo largo del recorrido, te vas con un montón de información y recomendaciones. We were able to see many waterbirds, amongst many the purper heron, the squacco heron, the black crowned night heron, the little bittern... And many, many more. Marcos surprised us with a report after the trip listing all the birds we've seen. Also he treated us with a nice local lunch during the tour. All in all: we enjoyed the trip and the knowledge and company of Marcos. HIGHLY RECOMMEMDED!

We had an excellent half day tour in Montfrague with Marcos, who was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and spoke English very well. Nuestro guía , Marcos, demostró un amplio conocimiento de la zona y nos explicó de manera clara y amena las características del parque y la evolución de este espacio protegido, se nota que le gusta lo que hace y lo transmite. Con los prismáticos y gracias al telescopio qué él llevaba pudimos ver cigüeñas negras, en sus nidos, incubando, buitres leonados con sus polluelos... y una amplia variedad de aves: halcón peregrino, alimoche,  roquero solitario..., también ciervos . Ha sido una experiencia inolvidable que recomiendo a todos los amantes de la naturaleza.

He is very knowledgeable and you can see he enjoys giving these tours. Definitely worthy. Some spots could get busy, you might want to book outside of weekends/bank holidays. It was great overall!
